Biography
of Linda Townsend - Watercolorist and Muralist
Linda Townsend was
born and grew up in New York State. She graduated from State University of New York at New Paltz with a
major in Art Education. She subsequently attended the School for American
Craftsman at Rochester Institute of Technology, majoring in ceramic design. She
later received a Masters Degree in Education from
Pepperdine
University. She started her teaching career on
Long Island, teaching art in Smithtown Junior
High.
In 1963, she moved to California and continued her teaching career in
Southern California. After thirty years of teaching art on the high school
level, she retired in 1993 from the Torrance
Unified School District. In
1994, she and her husband moved to Minden. She now devotes more time to her art
work. Her paintings and murals grace many homes and businesses in Southern
California as well as in the Carson
Valley area.
She is currently a member of the
Carson Valley Art Association and the Nevada Art Association.
Many of her
paintings can be seen at the Western Nevada College in Minden and at the Brewery
Arts Center Gallery in Carson City as well as at the Genoa Trading Company in
Genoa. Throughout her career, Linda has received many awards for her paintings.
During the past three years, out of a large display of paintings, the City of
Minden and the Record Courier Newspaper in Minden each selected hers to hang in
their offices. In 2004, she was awarded “best of show” in the winter show
sponsored by the Nevada Art Association.
