Biography of Linda Townsend - Watercolorist and Muralist

Linda Townsend was born and grew up in New York State.  She graduated from State University of New York at New Paltz with a major in Art Education.  She subsequently attended the School for American Craftsman at Rochester Institute of Technology, majoring in ceramic design.  She later received a Masters Degree in Education from Pepperdine University.  She started her teaching career on Long Island, teaching art in Smithtown Junior High.
In 1963, she moved to California and continued her teaching career in Southern California.  After thirty years of teaching art on the high school level, she retired in 1993 from the Torrance
Unified School District.  In 1994, she and her husband moved to Minden.  She now devotes more time to her art work. Her paintings and murals grace many homes and businesses in Southern California as well as in the Carson Valley area.
She is currently a member of the Carson Valley Art Association and the Nevada Art Association.
Many of her paintings can be seen at the Western Nevada College in Minden and at the Brewery Arts Center Gallery in Carson City as well as at the Genoa Trading Company in Genoa. Throughout her career, Linda has received many awards for her paintings.  During the past three years, out of a large display of paintings, the City of Minden and the Record Courier Newspaper in Minden each selected hers to hang in their offices. In 2004, she was awarded “best of show” in the winter show sponsored by the Nevada Art Association.
